Originally I trained, and worked, as a biomedical scientist and specialised in Cell Pathology. While working in a senior scientific role as departmental manager, I undertook an M.Sc. Management in Organization Behaviour. Later following the successful implementation of an IT project, I became keenly interested in health informatics and completed an M.Sc (Health Informatics) in 2003. My PhD was awarded in 2008 following acceptance of my analysis of multidisciplinary medical team meetings and the use of communication technology.
Currently I am continuing post-doctoral research with multi-disciplinary medical teams and their meetings. Issues surrounding more efficient record keeping and tools to enhance collaboration and communication are among my interests.
As well as lecturing from time to time in Trinity College, I am an associate lecturer for Oscail (National Distance Education Centre, Dublin City University), Hibernia College and Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin St..
